I have always been a firm believer in principle.
Many do not consider art to possess this salient virtue of a firm principle. I was recently in a warm conversation with a good friend. He has a degree in Civil Engineering, so we discussed how, if a civil engineer had to build a bridge, he would adhere to principles else the bridge would collapse. But, the question often asked is: “Can art be contained within a set of principles?” The culprit is the word “contained”? The principle behind a profession does not provide a cage in which the profession would not thrive, but a foundation by which the profession can be free. So, what is the principle behind art? Because of the individualistic nature of the profession, an artist must find this answer within himself. It is this philosophy of introspection in finding the truth that distinguishes the profession of an artist from every other profession. What is the basic principle behind your work?
